ILF partner Yaroslava Onika and the firm’s chief financial officer Dmytro Ievlev took part in the VI Annual Legal Forum “Development of Legal Services Market in Ukraine 2010” which was held in Kyiv on February 26 by the Ukrainian Bar Association.
This specialized forum again served as an efficient platform for professional discussions and informal networking of the representatives of some leading Ukrainian and CIS legal market players. Such key issues as the legal market work outcomes during the turbulent 2009 and prospects for its development in 2010, financial and psychological aspects of maintaining partnership in a law firm, innovative approaches for marketing legal services, as well as trends for strategic planning, budgeting and managing legal business garnered a lot of attention of the event’s participants.
Sharing her impressions from the forum, Yaroslava Onika commented: “The event turned out to be extremely relevant and provided a lot of ideas for practical application. Along with other economic sectors, legal business also felt the “aftertaste” of economic downturn – even more acute competition, the changes in clients’ legal needs and budgets, the necessity to find out new, often offbeat, approaches to managing and promoting legal services. Thus, meeting colleagues to discuss legal market’s best practices in improving client winning techniques and negotiating outstanding legal bills, as well as implementation of new corporate policies for finite resources optimization to enable a law firm’s strategic development were of utmost interest and value.”
