The meeting called in representatives of agricultural business, legislative bodies, industry associations and social organizations, as well as lawyers engaged in supporting investment projects and litigation cases in agricultural sector.
The participants evaluated main legislative and economic challenges affecting agricultural market in Ukraine, discussed possible actions to overcome them and presented their visions of the future development of the sector in general. Special attention was drawn to improving efficiency of government aid programs and taxation policy, including VAT refunds and VAT debt restructuring, specifics of doing agribusiness in Ukraine for foreign companies. Possible aftermath of the farmland sale moratorium extending, instruments of attracting investments into the agricultural sector, as well as certain regulatory issues of the industry were also high on agenda of the meeting.
Yaroslava Onika, in particular, stressed on some innovative mechanisms of attracting foreign investments into the agricultural business which turned out to be a decent alternative to public placements on the biggest European stock exchange platforms and are more affordable for medium business while recovering from recession. Ms. Onika gave insights into opportunities that New Connect, an alternative platform of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, could provide for the Ukrainian agricultural business, and referred to experience of Agroliga Ukrainian Group of Agricultural Companies that had announced the pre-offering stage of private placement on this platform.
“There are more loyal access requirements for companies to list on the New Connect platform, comparing to the main platform of the Warsaw Stock Exchange,” – commented Yaroslava Onika. “Hopefully, such alternative platforms will significantly enhance capabilities of medium agricompanies for raising funds in the international capital markets in even in turbulent times.”
