Though many significant structural changes occurred in the Ukrainian economy during the last decade, state and municipal companies are still among the main market players. Naturally, such enterprises and their assets are of great interest to national and foreign investors. Privatization of state and municipal enterprises is the most commonly used mechanism to transfer them into private ownership. However, pursuant to the current legislation of Ukraine not all public enterprises can be privatized. Thus, some other legal schemes are applied to ensure the possibility for investors to manage and operate public assets, such as lease, concession, asset management agreements, joint ventures etc.
